Want to Quit

February - 05
Q:
I am 16 years old, a high school junior and I have been struggling with porn for the past one year. I really want to quit.
My question is, how do I know if God is listening to my prayers. I have been praying for the past year to God to help me avoid this on the internet, but I always think about it and I end up watching it.  I don't want God to think I'm a bad boy and I know he is punishing me for watching all these.

I want to confess but I am afraid. if there is any other way, please help me.
thanks,
Ed

A:  Dear Ed,

Regarding breaking this evil habit, there is no more effective and positive means than through the Sacraments - Confession and Holy Communion.

These must be received weekly for a person in your current situation.
What did Christ say when He appeared to the Apostles after the Resurrection? - "Be not afraid!"
So, do not fear.
As St. Faustina records of her conversations with Jesus, He says that "The worst sinners have the first right to My mercy."
St. Faustina said Jesus refers to the sacrament of Reconciliation as the "Tribunal of Mercy" because this is where the sinner is held and embraced by the loving arms of God just as the Father welcomed the prodigal son home.
Never fear.  Fear is the tool of satan to keep you away from God.

My advice - Run from fear, not from God.
Run to God, and run as quickly as possible.
You will experience His love and mercy first hand.
Please don't hesitate to write and let me know how things are progressing for you.
God Bless you!
